Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about HitVocals - for producers, vocalists, and music professionals.

General

What is HitVocals?

HitVocals is the leading platform for fresh new toplines, vocals and hit songs. We supply a constant stream of new songs from the industry's best songwriters and vocalists. We specialise in Dance, Pop, EDM & House. All our vocals are quality controlled to a high level.

How long have you been in business?

We have been providing vocals behind the scenes to top producers and DJs for over fifteen years. We are part of the Audiofreaks music family, an award winning music production company based in the UK and established for over 20 years.

How much do the vocals cost?

The price of our vocals are set by the artists themselves. Shorter vocals will usually cost less than full songs and non-exclusive vocals will cost a lot less than exclusive ones. To see the prices please login and browse.

How are you different to Splice?

HitVocals focuses on providing high-quality, exclusive human vocal acapellas tailored for producers and DJs aiming to help their tracks stand out with unique vocals. The platform offers a curated selection of songs focused on exclusivity and quality. Whereas Splice and similar companies provide sounds to drop into existing productions, HitVocals goal is to provide the foundation for full new music projects.

Why wouldn't I just use Suno or A.I?

At HitVocals, we support human creators - both vocalists AND producers. AI generated vocals can damage a producer's reputation and jeopardise your career. It is also a legal minefield with many copyright issues and risks. We strongly advocate for supporting real human artists whenever possible.

Do you provide "Cover" versions?

Yes, we aim to build the worlds most extensive library for cover versions (and original masters) of songs and recreations specialising in classic Dance, House and EDM vocals.

Account types?

We operate on two main levels - for CREATORS (artists, writers, vocalists, publishers) and for CLIENTS (Producers, DJs, Labels etc). You can easily switch between account types if you are somebody that does both.

Are all vocals on HitVocals unique?

Vocals marked "Exclusive" are fresh vocals that have never been released before. Usually the vocals are totally new and exclusive to our platform.

Why are your vocals always so good?

Because we have a strict quality control and A&R Process and we only work with the industries top level writers, vocalists and publishers. We have grammy nominated writers in our team.

What styles do you specialise in?

We specialise in electronic music, mainly Dance, House, Tech, EDM, Hardstyle, Trance, Drum & Bass, Chill and more. We are also the number one library for classic house music masters.

What happens if I do not release a song after I've purchased the vocal?

There are no usage commitments for Non-Exclusive vocals. For Exclusive vocals there is a three year time period whereby the track must be released to the public.

Can I contact the Artists?

After a vocal purchase is complete you are put in direct contact with the artist. Furthermore we also provide an in-platform chat where you can easily communicate with any artists on the platform.

No not usually, unless there is a legitimate legal reason to do so, or if you have mutually agreed with the Artist.

Can I alter the licensing deal after it's been signed?

Once the sale is complete an initial licensing agreement is considered signed and this will become legally binding. However, if you & the artist wish to modify this, or make a new agreement, afterwards, then you are welcome to do so. HitVocals is not responsible for what happens with the project after it has been purchased from our platform.

Can I request changes to the vocal?

Once you have bought the vocal we will connect you to the artist and you can discuss with them any changes you may want. We insist that the vocal is purchased first so that the artists time is not wasted. Note that the artist is not obligated to make modifications so you should consider each vocal "as is".

Why do vocal prices vary so much?

Vocal prices fluctuate based on various factors, determined by artists themselves. An exceptional vocal can potentially catapult a producer to fame and so is an incredible investment. Is the producer allowed to chop up my topline, or will it remain intact?

Yes, the client can use your master in any way they like, as long as it’s not harmful or obscene.

How long is the song licensed to clients for?

An exclusive license is initially granted for 3 years, during which the client must release the song publicly. If they do so within this timeframe, the license becomes perpetual. However, if the song isn't released within 3 years, the exclusive license expires. Non-exclusive licenses have no expiration and are perpetual.

Can the producer create multiple releases with the topline, or just one?

The producer has the rights to release as many tracks containing your vocal master (or parts of it) as they like. The client is obligated to inform you of every deal they partake.

Do I have to engineer the vocals myself?

It helps if you can vocal produce to a high quality standard, but if you can’t then do not worry - we can help you with this and maybe even invite you to our studios to record with our engineers. Contact our support team to figure out what you need to help you get the best results.

What audio format is required for the vocal stems?

You'll need to supply us with a .zip file containing organised 24 Bit WAV file stems & lyrics. Full instructions are provided within the platform.

Can I listen to other artists vocals?

Yes you can switch between a creator and client account no problem. Just don’t purchase your own vocal as that would be weird, right :-)

I’m a manager - can I set multiple profiles for my artists?

Yes, although it is recommended (for legal and other reasons) that they set up their own accounts and you log into those to manage with their permission.

Do I get to approve who buys my song?

We've developed a client quality tier system to enable artists to control who views their vocals, ensuring they're only sold to professional producers, if desired.

VIP System Details

Do I need to provide music along with my vocal?

We suggest recording your vocal to "bare bones" music backing to give a good idea to the producer clients about how well your vocal could work. A piano/guitar chord track would be the minimum we would recommend and fuller backing tracks are fine too. We also provide a library of inspiration backing tracks that you can easily download and use.

Is HitVocals exclusive, or can I sell my toplines with other platforms as well?

Our platform supports both Non-Exclusive and Exclusive vocals. While Non-Exclusive vocals can be featured on other platforms, Exclusive vocals should be entirely fresh and exclusive to our site. If a song has been previously released in any manner, it must not be categorised as an exclusive vocal.

Are there any costs or fees to upload vocals?

There are no costs to upload vocals and no monthly subscription is required. We will retain a small commission from any sales you successfully make.

We offer feedback and advice and even offer to help rework the songs with you in cases where we feel the song has potential.

Licensing Specific

How long is the term?

Our “Exclusive" licenses have an initial 3 year period with a release commitment, which extends to a perpetual term once commercially released. Our Non-Exclusive licenses are perpetual.

Do you provide example licenses?

Yes you can download examples of our licenses to check through from your user area "support" panel. You can also contact our helpful support team who will talk you through any specific license related queries.

Does HitVocals take royalties from future record sales and other income?

No. We do not take any additional royalties other than the initial commission on a sale.

Does a future release have to use the same name as the vocal/song name?

No. The client can use the vocal in as many of his projects as he wishes and can use a different name for every release. They must however ensure that the artist is credited properly on every release and informed of every future deal related to any project that contains their vocal.

Can a producer re-record a song once they've bought it?

No, the producer only has the right to use the master recording that they've purchased. They must not re-record this with either the original artist, or with a different singer.

Can an artist re-record a song once it has been sold?

An exclusive song that has been sold must not be re-recorded by the artist while it is under the term of a sales agreement with the client. Doing so is prohibited and bad faith. A non-exclusive vocal may be re-recorded as long as the underlying copyright credits remain unchanged.

Can the same non-exclusive vocal master be used in more than one track by different producers?

Yes. Think of non-exclusive vocals similar to using samples - but with the peace of mind that the master is already legally cleared for you to use. The music industry often reuses vocal masters, and popular vocal hooks are frequently used in many different songs & releases.

Non-Exclusive Info

What happens if the vocal is bought but then not used?

Non-Exclusive vocals are not under any release commitments, however, If a vocal is purchased exclusively, the client then has 3 years to release the new track officially. If they do not release the song within 3 years then the agreement may be terminated and the vocal returned to our platform for sale to somebody else.
