They give you a starting point for a track without needing to write, cast, record and produce a vocalist from scratch - and without the studio time that would take.

Chopping Vocals Into Something New
One of the most addictive things you can do with a vocal sample is stop treating it as a vocal. Slice it, map the slices across a keyboard or a set of pads, and the words stop meaning anything. What is left is pure texture and emotion, played as an instrument.

Most of the library is licensed non-exclusively, which is what keeps a professional vocal affordable - the same recording may be licensed to more than one producer, and every use is properly cleared. Our non-exclusive guide covers exactly what that means for a release.
Where you need more than that, there are two routes. An exclusive license takes the recording off the market so nobody else can build on that performance. A custom vocal goes further again - written and recorded to your track, so the performance has never existed anywhere before.

The questions producers ask before they license a vocal.
What are vocal samples?
Vocal samples are professionally recorded vocal performances a producer can use in their own music. They range from single phrases and ad-libs up to complete toplines and full song vocals, and they save you writing, casting, recording and producing a vocalist from scratch.
What types of vocal samples are available?
One-shots, phrases, hooks, loops, pads and textures, and vocal FX, alongside full toplines and complete song vocals. You can filter by type, so if you only want hooks you never have to scroll past anything else.
Can I search vocal samples by BPM?
Yes, and you can do it in a sentence. Type “female house vocal 124 bpm” and the tempo is picked out for you, or set a BPM range on a slider. There is a leniency setting too, so “127 range 3” will find you anything from 124 to 130.
Can I search vocal samples by key?
Yes. Type the key into your search, sharps, flats, major and minor included, or pick a root and scale from the key selector. Every sample lists its key, so what fits your track is obvious before you audition it.
Can I search for male or female vocals?
Yes. Tone is one of the things the search reads out of a plain-English query, and it covers male, female, duet, and processed tones like pitched-up, pitched-down and robot. You can also filter for human recordings specifically.
Are the vocals performed by real singers?
Every vocal on the platform is performed by a real human artist. We do not accept fully AI-generated vocals. You can also filter explicitly by whether a recording is human, so if that matters to your release, you can prove it rather than assume it.
Can I preview vocal samples before downloading?
Yes. Every sample plays in the browser on an interactive waveform, and you can click anywhere on it to jump straight to the part you want to hear. Samples on the page load in the background, so playback starts immediately rather than buffering.
Can I download multiple vocal samples at once?
Yes. Add samples to a queue as you browse and download the whole lot as one zip. Anything already in your library is recognised automatically and is not charged again.
Are HitVocals vocal samples royalty free?
Some are. Samples carry a licence type you can filter by, so if you specifically need royalty free material you can search for it directly. Others carry different terms, and the licence attached to a given sample is shown on the sample itself. Full vocals and toplines are a separate matter, because those carry an agreed artist share - our royalties guide covers how that works.
What is the difference between Royalty Free and Royalty Fair?
They are the two licence types you can filter samples by. Which one applies is shown on each sample, along with what it permits, and it is worth reading before you commit a sample to a release. Our license guide explains how our licensing works in general, and our team will answer a specific question about a specific sample.
Can I use vocal samples in commercial music?
Yes, subject to the licence on the sample you choose. That is what the library is for, and the terms are shown before you buy rather than buried afterwards.
Can I use HitVocals vocal samples in my DAW?
Yes. Samples download as WAV files, and you choose how they are named - type, key, tone, wetness and tempo, in any combination. They arrive labelled the way you work, so they are findable in your sample folder six months later.
Can I download samples I have already purchased again?
Yes, and it costs nothing. Anything already in your library re-downloads free, and if it ends up in a queue alongside new samples, only the new ones are charged.
